EthnodanceologyCreative™ is dedicated to the services of cultural education through the artistic expression of dance. We are committed to exposing people of all ages to the connection of dance and culture as we believe this provides a pathway to better understanding the world around us.

Letter from the Founder

While some refer to dance as the study of non-verbal communication, I refer to dance as total communication. One's spirit, body, and soul speaks volumes simultaneously and in totality. Dance for me is a form of expression, a social interaction shall we say, one that embraces the being as it releases the soul.

In the spring and summer of 2005 when I worked under the late Katherine Dunham as an intern archiving many of her precious and historical materials, I was constantly reminded of the legacy she lead in the field of dance anthropology. Her training in both anthropological studies and dance cultivated a great understanding of how dance is one's culture and I believe that understanding ones dance is understanding where they come from. It is Dunham who was one of the first in the 20th century to be recognized as a dance anthropologist.

As an ethnodanceologist, my work incorporates the application of theories and methods from cultural anthropology as well as other disciplines in the social sciences and humanities in order to make cultural connections between dancer and society. My goal to you is to offer services at the level and interest appropriate for your organization at which will reach an even broader audience and community. I believe that over time, this engagement will create a greater understanding of culture, identity, and the arts and the connection between all of these for all of us who are members of a global society.

I am not an anthropologist who examines dance as an aspect of a culture, but a dancer and ethnographer who understands dance to be culture.
